Duties and Responsibilities of the Grama Panchayat President
The Grama Panchayat President is the elected representative who provides leadership for the administration of the Grama Panchayat. Coordinating and supervising the Panchayat’s development activities, public services, and financial affairs are among the primary responsibilities of the President.
Major Duties:
- Provide leadership for the administration of the Grama Panchayat.
- Convene Panchayat Committee meetings and preside over them.
- Supervise the implementation of decisions taken by the Panchayat.
- Lead the formulation and implementation of annual plans, development programmes, and the budget.
- Supervise the functioning of Panchayat employees and ensure efficient delivery of public services.
- Take necessary measures to ensure basic services such as sanitation, drinking water, street lighting, and public health.
- Coordinate development activities in cooperation with Government departments and other institutions.
- Take necessary interventions and decisions during disaster management and emergency situations.
- Ensure financial discipline of the Panchayat and safeguard public property and resources.
- Provide leadership for the functioning of Grama Sabhas and encourage public participation.
